homemade lace candle jars

For this craft, I used inexpensive candles that were not very pretty on their own, which is exactly what inspired this project.

You can use the same easy technique to dress up boring candles with scraps of pretty lace.

Use seasonal colors to make lace candle holders for special occasions, such as sparkling lace with green and red accents for Christmas, or white and red lace for Valentine’s Day.

You Will Need:

  • Glass candle holders or small glass jars
  • Lace or ribbon scraps
  • Hot glue gun and glue or strong craft glue
  • Optional: burlap ribbon (Amazon) or burlap scraps, pearl strings, twine or other embellishments

Project Instructions

  1. First: remove any labels and thoroughly clean your glass jars or candle holders. For the candle shown here, I applied two separate sections of lace.
  2. Measure Lace: You will need to measure around your holder, add a half inch to the measurement, then cut the lace to this size. Wrap the lace around the glass and secure it with a little dot of hot glue, overlapping the lace slightly.
  3. Position Lace: On the sample shown, the wider piece of lace was applied first, to cover the top area of the candle, then the smaller band around the bottom of the holder was glued in place.
  4. Embellishments: A small string of pearls or beads could also be added on top of the lace. Enhance the design with additions such as twine, small charms, beads, or decorative buttons.

IMPORTANT: Be sure that your lace, or other materials, do not extend up to, or over, the top of your candle jar or holder. This is a fire hazard, so please ensure that any flammable material never comes close to the candle flame.

Variations: Pretty In Lace Candle Holders

As you see, there are many variations of lace covered candles (Amazon link). You can find them, ready-made, in the dollar store or online. You can buy these, of course, if you’re rushed for time – or, you can use them for inspiration and easily make your own.

Consider a trendy combination of burlap ribbon below, or on top of, the lace. As you can see, this is a romantic, rustic look, perfect for wedding table decorations. Burlap ribbon is now available in different colors and with, or without, wired edges.

Always remember: never leave a candle burning unattended.
