Victorian Fan Favour

Most home decorating stores will give you one free wooden paint stick for each can of paint that you buy. Since you really only need one for each color, you'll end up with spare paint sticks. That's okay - because now you can recycle them into these romantic Victorian fan favors.

Although these fans are decorative, they are meant to be used - so they are wonderful to hand out to guests at a summer wedding or garden party.

Supplies:

Paint stir stick or large craft stick

Heavy weight card stock paper

Craft glue

Ribbon

Gift wrap, tissue paper, scrapbook paper or wallpaper

Craft Project Instructions:

You can purchase fan blanks or make your own from heavy weight card stock, using our free printable template. Cut the pattern from card stock. You will need two pieces of the template pattern.

Glue gift wrap or tissue paper or clippings to one side of the card stock, pressing out any bubbles or wrinkles. Allow the glue to dry completely. Repeat for the second template piece.

Add any additional embellishments that you might like - suggestions include scrapbook embellishments, scraps of lace, cut outs from paper doilies, Victorian clip art, or contrasting paper designs cut into heart shapes and framed with lace. Glue paint stick between the two sheets (you may need to cut your paint stick, I cut mine to a nine inch length. Insert the cut end between the fan and you won't have to smooth the wood). You may need to sand your paint stick a little if it doesn't have a smooth finish. Glue the two undecorated sides together, making sure your stick is lined up in the centre.

Be sure that you glue your fan securely. You want this fan to serve a function and not come apart during use.

Tie a bow around the top of the handle and secure the bow with a little glue. The bow will take a little abuse if these fans are used.

Add an inscription on the handle with a gold paint pen, detailing the event or date or names.
