Tomato Cage Ghost

The instructions for this tomato cage ghost are minimal, but some past experience with fitting fabric may be useful as you create this Halloween decorating project.

Supplies:

White Felt (Fleece will work too)
Black Craft Foam
Hot Glue
String or ribbon
Tomato Cage
Set of 100 Clear Christmas Lights
Twist Ties or Wire

How to:

I used a large tomato cage, but you can use any size and adjust your measurements accordingly. Measure around the bottom ring of your cage, add an additional 5 inches. This will be the width measurement you need. Measure from the bottom of your cage up to the top ring, add 5 inches. This will be your length measurement.

Cut one piece of felt to the above measurements.

Your width measurement will remain the same as above for the face and to determine the length, measure from the top ring to about 10 inches above the ends of the tomato cage. You may need to adjust these measurements slightly, depending on the tomato cage your choose. Wrap your felt around the cage and secure with pins or clothes pegs to make sure of the fit, before you cut to make sure of the fit.

Using hot glue, turn over a 1 inch seam and glue the seam in place. You will need to feed a ribbon through this seam, so be sure to keep the glue along the very edge of the fabric, allowing you enough room to insert a ribbon.

Once you have your seam glued in place, glue the side seam closed.

Repeat the seams for the section used as a face. Refer to the photo often while assembling your ghost.

Feed a ribbon or string through the seams and while the fabric is draped over your cage, pull the ribbon tight and tie to secure. Do this for the both the body section and face section. You can see in the photo where the felt is gathered with the ribbon pull.

To secure the top of the face, simply bunch together the felt and tie a string or ribbon around your bundle of felt.

Cut out the pattern pieces for the face from black craft foam and glue in place on the face and attach the "Boo" to the body area with glue.

Using twist ties or wire, attach lights to the tomato cage frame. Pull your ghost over the frame, you may want to secure the face to the body using a pin or velcro piece.

I created this project using two separate sections, because I plan on switching the face with a snowman face for the winter months. Plug in the lights and you're all done!
