Material:
Scrap boards
Black Paint
Wood Stake (I used a stake left over from an election sign post)
Screws
Outdoor Varnish (optional)
How to:
These sign posts are very easy to make and can be used for all kinds of holidays. This one is for Halloween. Begin by painting the sayings onto your signs with black paint. I used a wood burning tool first to engrave the wood, but this is optional.
Suggested Halloween Sayings:
The older and more ugly your boards are, the better. If you want to preserve this project for several years, you should apply a coat of outdoor varnish to all wood surfaces when you are finished painting. I didn't do this because my boards were fairly new and I'd like them to age a little first. I will apply varnish once the boards have aged a little more.
Once your paint is dry, attach the boards to the stake with screws (be sure to use at least 2 screws per board or your boards will turn). That's it.

Wow I love this idea! In my backyard, there's a mini-forest of bamboo (I have no clue where it came from, but whatever) so I just chopped down one of the bamboo trunks, spraypainted it grey, and then used the wooden planks to make the signs.

We are a mobile home park of 55 plus celebrating Halloween in a BIG way. Thanks for the suggestions for making signs.
Loved this project. I went one step further and glued eyeballs, skeletons, spiders, beeproaches, etc. to each sign. Looks great. Also I'm going to drip fake blood down each sign to really make it spooky. Thanks for the idea.

This is a really cool idea my kids will love all the excitment on halloween night and how wonderful our front yard will look! Plus they will also love doing the crafts! I plan to write grave yard, haunted house, Enter If You Dare. Knowing my kids anything that will make our house different will please them!
i think that all of these ideas are great if you are having a party or if you just want to decorate for the that month like other people do it would be so cool to see this homemade item in someones yard that would be totally awesome
