Halloween Costumes You Can Make From A Cardboard Box
by Nicole Dean
Do you have a cardboard box that is large enough to fit around your child? If so, you can easily make a costume for your child for Halloween – and save a lot of money in the process.

Start by cutting a hole in the box for your child’s head. Or, if the box is smaller, then you’ll attach straps to the edges of the box when the costume is completed (like suspenders) and fit them over your child’s shoulders. Also, cut arm holes if you aren’t doing the suspender method. Then you’re ready to get started. All of these outfits fit perfectly over leggings and a long sleeve shirt (or jacket).
A Wrapped Gift
Wrap the entire box in gift wrap (whatever kind you like the best) and stick a bow on your child’s head. He or she can trick-or-treat as a wrapped gift. Use Christmas paper if you want to dress as a Christmas present.

Computer Monitor
Spray paint the box grey. After it dries, paint a white screen on the front of the monitor.
Of course, you can have fun
decorating the screen with your favorite website, or print the
screen from your favorite website and glue it onto the box for
a more realistic look.
Box of Cereal
Does your child have a favorite cereal? Fruit Loops, Cheerios, Cocoa Puffs? Any box of cereal can be painted onto a cardboard box and turned into a costume.

Robot:Spray paint the box grey or silver. Then, after the paint dries, find a mish-mash of nuts and bolts and glue them to the box. You may also create attachments from aluminum foil, dryer vents, duct tape, or whatever you have lying around the house.
Invite your child to help with making his or her costume. Spending time creating these costumes together may end up being even more fun than trick-or-treating. Be sure to take lots of pictures.

Box of Popcorn
Remove the bottom of a large cardboard box then cut openings in the sides for your arms and a circle in the top for your head. Paint the box white and add red stripes with paint or strips of red paper. Make a Popcorn logo to glue on the front. Glue real popcorn on the top of the box, and onto a hat or headband to wear on your head.
Spray paint the box in black or white; add contrasting dots to make a dice. To make fuzzy dice, use spray adhesive to cover the box with fake fur; glue on white felt dots.
Lego BlockGlue small cottage cheese or sour cream containers to the front of a rectangular box and spray paint in a bright lego block color. Dress in sweat pants, shirt and hat in the same color.
Refrigerator
Spray paint a rectangular cardboard box white. Add a handle. Voila! Instant coolness in a box.

Mailbox
Paint a cardboard box in mailbox colors. Cut a mail slot and glue on an envelope or two so that they stick part way of the slot.
Well I too am a single mom on a tight budget. At first my daughter wanted to be a scarey clown (which is what her older brother once was), but while i was at work one day I was thinking and came up with this "great" idea. came home & searched online. NO one has ever done this so I said BINGO we have too. SO with that said I'm turning my daughter into my "job". I know yall are asking how is that possible. Well ya see I am a dishwasher @ a public school here & my idea is to take a big box cut a hole for her head, a three sided flap ( that flods downward) put a handle on the flap. Wrap it in white paper & draw on the buttons and such making the front of a dishwasher. When the flap is open take plastic (paper) plates, cups and Plastic utinsels attach to body of shirt then take stuffing and place around like soap bubbles. There you have a dishwasher. SHe is going to be in a Holloween costume contest. I hope she wins.
I was just mentioning to my three children that back in 1985 , my mother was sort of on a tight budget and really did not have extra money to go buy me a costume so she made one for me. And we put together a box, spray painted it and I was a dice. I was upset because I thought the other kids would make fun of me but it turn's out I was the most creative, I won second prize in school contest and that year was one to remember. So for those who think spending the most means the best your wrong. Happy halloween from Illinois.
My daughter's birthday is on Halloween and the present idea is just what we were looking for... THANX A BUNCH
