Sunroom Spiral Scarf to Crochet

by Aileen of the goodtimesithinkso blog, where you will find other beautiful (and free) crochet patterns.

Completed in time for a village fall show in Scotland, this lovely spiral scarf is done in warm, rich autumnal colors, with fluid twists and turns, curves and movement incorporated in the design.

Materials:

4 balls of Wendy Fusion shade Saffron

7mm hook

Notes: If you change the yarn choice, adjust the crochet hook to suit your choice of yarn.

spiral3 (15K)For U.S. crochet instructions change tr to dc and dtr to trc.

Crochet Scarf Pattern:

Decide how long you want your scarf and chain for that length. I chained 180 sts.

Row 1 - tr into 4th chain and each chain to end.

Row 2 - ch 3 and *tr into next 2 sts, dtr in 3rd st* repeat until end.

Row 3 - as row 2.

spiral2 (18K)Continue until desired width is achieved. I did five rows but the yarn was quite thick and the hook quite large.

This pattern is so quick, easy and effective. I used 200g of wool. My scarf is quite long - at least 8ft - and fairly chunky. However if you use a lighter yarn and smaller hook the spiral will be tighter and more springy.

At right, you can see the finished scarf wrapped around my mannequin umpteen times.

This pattern is offered and made available for personal use only.

I CAN TELL THE ORIGINAL PATTERN IS NOT WORDED RIGHT... IT SHOULD BE, ROW 2 should state,
ch.3 2 tr. into next st.,dtr. in next, repeat.

i can tell by looking at the close up of scarf that is how it's done

My spiral scarf is not curling, what am I doing wrong. After you chain 3 do you turn the work over (ch 3, turn) or just start back the other direction. Also, is your current row lining up with previous row as far as doubles above doubles & trebles above trebles? I'm using Caron Simply Soft Yarn, worsted, 4 ply & a P hook also tried a K, still didn't curl. Really want this to work, please help.

ok. dc is when you wrap the yarn around the hook once, pull through two at a time. tr when you wrap around twice and pull through two at a time as well. and dtr is when you wrap around three times and pull through two at a time.
