Yarn Covered Photo Album with Crocheted Photo Frame

by Twila Lenoir

Keep your favourite photographs in this yarn covered photo album - your choice of yarn could be pastels for a baby album, crystal white for a wedding, or red and green for Christmas. Using variegated yarn guarantees that each one will be different - but every album will have that treasured homemade look that makes it an heirloom!

Photo Album and Crocheted Picture Frame

Materials List:

photo album

yarn (I used variegated yarn) for the album body, and a yarn that matches it for the frame

silk or crocheted flowers and leaves

tacky glue

small piece of velcro

Photo Album and Photo Frame Crochet Pattern

Instructions:

Start on the inside edge of the photo album, wrapping the yarn around the front of the album. Smear glue only on the front of the album and work just a small section at time so that you don't get the yarn too sticky. Pull the yarn tightly as you work your way around.

If you can't take out the spiral binding, its okay because you can cut around the spiral loops once the yarn is dry. Keep gluing around album, pushing the yarn together as you go. You will soon get a momentum going! End the yarn at the opposite inside of the album from the one where you started.

When dry, the outside yarn will be glued firmly down and won't move, but the yarn inside will be movable. This way you can use it to slip in some notes or memorable cards.

If you weren't able to remove the spiral loops, cut the strings at the spirals and hot glue them in place, so that you don't see any spaces around the spirals.

Crochet Instructions:

For photo album edging: Make a Crochet chain long enough to go around the entire album and a little for over lapping. Turn,chain1 (dc in next ch skip 2,,ch 4, skip 2, dc). repeat( ) to the end of chain. Hot glue to the inside edges of album.

Rnd 2 Sl st in next st,(ch 3,,dc, 3tr,2 dc) in next st, *(2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc) in next st, skip each of the next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join as before.

Rnd 3 Ch 1, *sc in next st, ch 5, skip each of the next 2 sts, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next st, ch 5, skip each of the next 3 sts; repeat from * around, join with sl st in first sc Fasten off.

Make a 24 inch ch with variegated yarn and weave thru shells of row 1, tie in a bow at the bottom.

Hot glue the frame on the center of album, but leave open the top of the frame so that you can slide a photo in and out. Cut a piece of velcro in a half circle and hot glue it to the inside top of frame to keep the frame in place.

Hot glue some silk or crocheted flowers and leaves to the bow.

Fill your album with photos and...enjoy!

Hi, you mention "tacky glue" in the materials list but then mention "hot glue" in the instrucitons. Which type of glue is best to use when attaching crochet to a hard surface? Thanks
