Free Cross Stitch Bookmarks with a Hound Dog Theme

If you're only making one bookmark, we suggest you purchase a pre-made bookmark blank. We've also included instructions for making your own blank. If you're making up kits, you can buy a big piece of 18-count cross-stitch fabric and easily whip up a bunch of blanks.bmark05x (11K)

    Materials Needed:

  • Pre-made blank cross-stitch bookmark (18-count)
  • IF YOU MAKE YOUR OWN BLANK: Piece of 18-count cross-stitch fabric at least 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"
  • IF YOU MAKE YOUR OWN BLANK: 1/4 inch double-fold seam binding in color to coordinate with thread
  • bmark04x (9K)
  • Embroidery floss - 1 skein of each color (you'll use a lot less, but they don't sell half-skeins)
  • Cross-stitch needle
  • IF YOU'RE MAKING KITS: Plastic zip baggie - one per kit
  • IF YOU'RE MAKING KITS: Piece of cardboard or plastic to wrap floss around

How To Make a Cross Stitch Bookmark Blank

  1. Cut a piece of 18-count cross-stitch cloth to 2 1/2" x 8 1/2".
  2. Cut a 25" piece of seam binding.
  3. Starting anywhere along the long edge of the bookmark, fold the seam binding around the edge and stitch into place. Treat the corners as you would Christmas packages and fold the edges neatly at an angle. When you get to the corner, get the needle into the DOWN position, lift your presser foot, and turn the bookmark. No need to fold the raw edge when you've made it all around the bookmark. Just overlap it with the start of the seam binding and stitch it flat.
