Cake Mix in a Jar Recipe
... with Printable Gift Tag

by Jane Lake

This is a nice gift in a jar to give at any time, but makes a special going away treat for college students or a welcome gift for a new neighbour.

Cake Mix in a Jar

Ingredients:

6 c. flour
3 Tbsp. baking powder
1-1/2 c. Crisco
4 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt

In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. With pastry blender, cut in the shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Pack in airtight jars, using at least two cups of mix per jar. Store in a cool, dry place. If possible, use within one month but if kept cool and dry it will keep slightly longer.

Printable Gift Tag

Print and cut out the gift tag. Fold in half, and in half again, to place the illustration on the front and the instructions on the inside of your gift tag. Punch a hole in the top left corner and attach to the jar with a piece of yarn or ribbon.

This is great! I like to give homemade gifts and also to paint my jars. The combination is a winner.

Gladys,
Crisco is the name of a well-known brand of vegetable shortening in North America. It is in solid form, similar to lard, and you can often substitute lard for vegetable shortening in many recipes.
