Free Crochet Pattern to Make a Teddy Bear Graduation Outfit: Teddy Bear Graduation Gown and Mortarboard Cap

Dress our cuddly teddy bear in one of several outfits that are also suitable for store-bought teddies or favourite dolls.
This free pattern includes crochet instructions to make a graduation gown to fit our teddy, and a mortarboard cap to complete the grad outfit.
Teddy Bear Grad Outfit
Materials List:
Knitting worsted weight 4 ply yarn
16 ounces Royal Blue or your school color
Small amount of Gold
One sheet of plasitc canvas 10x13"
Two Royal Blue butttons, 3/4" diameter
Crochet hook size J
Tapesty needle
Gauge: 3 sc = 1"

Crocheted Teddy Bear Graduation Outfit
Instructions:
Graduation gown
Ch 71
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across 70sc
Rows 2-5: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn
Row 6: Sc in first 11sc, ch 20, sk next 10 sc (armhole),
sc in next 28 sc, ch 20, skip next 10 sc (armhole), sc in last 11 sc,
ch 1 turn.
Row 7: Sc in each sc and in each ch across, ch 1 turn, 90 sc
Row 8-41: Sc in each sc across, Ch 1, turn, At end of last row, break off.
Back seam: Starting at lower edge, sew back seam halfway to neck edge,
leaving top half of back seam open.
Back trim and buttonholes: With Royal blue, sc evenly along one back edge,
then sc along other back edge, spacing 2 buttonholes evenly apart,
For each buttonhole work (ch 1, skip 1 sc) Break off. Sew buttons in place.
Sleeves
Rnd 1: Join Royal blue in any st at underarm, ch 1, then spacing sc's
evenly spaces and increasing sa needed, work 36 sc around entire armhole
opening. Join with sl st in first sc and ch 1 turn.
Rnds 2-21: Sc in each sc around, join and ch 1, turn at end of each rnd.
At end of last rnd, break off. Repeat for other sleeve.
Mortarboard Cap
Crown: Ch 2, with Royal blue.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook 6sc
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around 12sc
Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 18sc
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 24sc
Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 30sc
Rnd 6: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 36sc
Rnd 7: (Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 42sc
Rnd 8: (Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 48sc
Rnd 9: (Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 54sc
Rnd 10: (Sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around 60sc
Rnd 11-15: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 16: (Sc in next sc, dec next 2 sc tog) around 40 sc
At end of rnd 16, break off.
Top
Make 2, Ch 27 with Royal Blue,
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Ch 1 turn, 26 sc
Row 2-25: Sc in each sc across, Ch 1, turn, At end of last row, break off.
Cut 1 piece of plastic canvas about 8"x8" square, put canvas between the
2 crochted pieces. Sc crocheted pieces together. Sew to crown.
Tassle
Cut 7 pieces of Gold yarn about 12" long fold in half. Cut one end of yarn. With a
separate piece of yarn, tie approx. 2 " about folded end,
wind yarn around about 5 times and tie. Loop separate piece of yarn onto
other end, tie to one corner of mortarboard.
Finishing
Weave in any additional ends. Dress, bear, you can sew edge of crown of
mortarboard in place.
For school initials and/or year of graduate cut out letters or number from
white felt or buy the sew on letters and numbers, place these letters and
numbers on front of gown in any place you wish.
