Blocking:
To block off you can either use a 1" inch styrofoam ball, cut in half and wrapped in plastic wrap, or half of a plastic easter egg. Dip your hat in any fabric stiffener, squeeze out, then drape the hat over the half egg shape or styrofoam ball. Make sure you have plastic wrap on the bottom. You can pin the ch lp down around but I just molded and pushed the brim flat. Let dry.
Weave the ribbon through sts of rnd 4: tie the ends in a bow and glue a ribbon rose in the center.

Sincere thanks for the opportunity to use the pattern. I made over 4 dozen of the little hats, in white, to put on a Victorian Christmas Tree for the Erie Co. Historical Society. Love those little darlings! The tree is in a bedroom of the Charlotte Elizabeth Battles Museum of Rural Life, in Girard, and Miss Battles was always known to be seen wearing a hat. When there are apparations of her, (yes, she's still around) she appears wearing a white dress and her white summer hat.
Thank you for sharing this story. I would love to have seen this tree; it sounds beautiful, and I love the background information. That's a lot of little hats to crochet!
