harlequin afghanFree vintage knitting pattern to make a Harlequin pattern afghan from worsted weight yarn. This warm and cosy blanket, perfect for cuddling up on the sofa, is worked over 10 strips following a raised Harlequin chart. A border of six rows of single crochet completes the design.

MATERIALS:

Chadwick’s Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 4 Ply, Art. E. 232, 19 skeins (1 oz. “Tangle-Proof” Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 789 Bittersweet; 31 skeins of No. 647 Surf Green.

Milwards “Phantom” Aluminum Knitting Pins or Clark’s O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 5 (3-3/4 mm. size).

Clark’s O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 5.

NOTES:

Original materials date from 1952. Substitute modern knitting needles and worsted weight yarn, in colors of your choice, to produce the following gauge.

GAUGE:

5½ sts make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

CHANGING COLORS:

When changing from one color to another, always twist the unused color around the other to prevent making holes. When carrying unused color across, do not pull tightly.
