Handprint Spider Smilies
by Jane Lake
These spider smilies are a simple Halloween art project suitable for younger children or even toddlers.
You will need:
Instructions:
1. Use a paint brush or cotton balls to apply black paint to your child's palm and four fingers (omit the thumb).
2. Have your child make a handprint on white paper.
3. Turn the paper around, and make another handprint, overlapping the palm area.
4. Paint over any extra white areas in the spider body (the palm part of the the print) and let the spider dry.
5. Attach goggle eyes, or paint white circles for the eyes. Paint on a nice white smile.
6. You can cut out the spider if you wish, or hang it just as it is!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SPIDER HAND PRINT CRAFT. I SAW A PROJECT CLOSE TO IT IN MY MOMMY AND ME BOOK. I LIKE THIS BETTER B/C OF YOUR IDEA TO PAINT A FACE ON IT WITH WHITE PAINT. THIS WILL BE SO CUTE! I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT W/ MY 2 YEAR OLD. I'M ALSO A TEACHER. I'LL HAVE TO SAVE THIS IDEA FOR WHEN I GO BACK TO WORK.
I am a teacher and a mother to a one year old. I decided to try this project with my son (and washable nontoxic paint) and it came out wonderfully. Of course it was a little messy because of his age but we still both enjoyed it very much. I will definately be using this in the classroom
Hi, Mindi,
I'm so glad the spider smilie was a success for you and your son. I bet you keep that little piece of art for a very long time!
