Mini Bird Box
You Will Need:
- small artificial birds
- small silk or dried flowers, with or without stems
- baby's breath, moss or grassy fillers
- miniature bird box on a stick, or mini bird box and a 12" long twig or dowel
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Mini Bird Box Decoration
Instructions: Look at the photograph for design and placement ideas.
Begin by forming a circular bird nest shape from the moss or dried grass. Usually you will not need glue for the nest to keep its form; just use your fingers to bend the moss or grass into a circle.
The total length of this wall decoration is about 12." Poke a twig or dowel, or the bird's nest stick, through the top center of the bird nest, pushing nest up the stick about 1.5" from the bottom of the stick. Glue in place.
Continue working up the stick, gluing filler and moss at the back, then adding flowers and the first bird to the filler where you find them most appealing. Don't worry about the fine strings of glue hanging where you don't want them as you work; you can cut them off with scissors when dry.
Fill gaps with baby's breath and filler or small bunches of nest material. Hot glue each addition in place. Add the last bird near the entrance to the bird box.
Variations:Try a Valentine version using roses and cinnamon hearts for decoration.
For Halloween, use small bats, owls and ghosts.
At Christmas, try poinsetta leaves and holly instead of flowers, along with miniature glass balls or wooden Christmas ornaments.
