Easy Christmas Crafts - Books and Resources

Our instructions for this frugal Christmas craft are for a larger bear, suitable for decorating the bed, or sitting near the tree. However, if you make a smaller version, she would serve as a perfect Christmas tree topper!

This is a great way to use your extra lace. I had tons, if you had to buy the materials, it would run you about $12. The rest of the materials can be bought inexpensively as well; watch for sales and dollar store deals.

Instructions: :

Raid the dress up box for a nice shaped hat, and use up your extra lace in this project. I had tons of lace, but if you had to buy the materials, it would run you about $12 (2004 prices!). The rest of the materials can be bought inexpensively as well; watch for sales and dollar store deals.

You Will Need:

About 4 yards white lace

About 10 yards medium blue lace or your favorite color

Spool of white and medium blue or your favorite color of thin ribbon

10 white ribbon roses

White with gold sparkles tulle

1 Gold tinsel pipe cleaner

10 inch bear

12 inch straw hat

Ready:

Cut the bear's arms off where the joints connect to the body.

Start by cutting a hole in the top of the straw hat big enough to allow the bear's legs and body to fit.

Now starting at the bottom of the hat, with the white lace, put a stream of hot glue around in small sections and put the lace in the hot glue and pinch as you go around so that the lace will lay flat. The white lace creates the teddy bear's slip, so wide lace works wonderfully.

Start using the medium blue (or your choice of color), going around and up the hat to the hole that you have cut, pinching the lace as you go to get it to lay flat.

Put the bear through the hole and glue the edge of the hole close to the bear's neck. Glue your bear's arms on the hat close to her neck. Now add one layer of of white lace for her collar. Glue some narrow ribbon around the collar, hiding the rough edge of the lace. Make a bow with long tails and glue to the front of her collar.

Make about 8 small white bows and place them around her dress. Add white ribbon flowers on the bows on her dress. Make two blue small bows or your color and glue on the outside of her ears and put white ribbon flowers on the blue bows.

Make one tinsel gold pipe cleaner into a circle and glue to the top of her head as her halo.

Make a large bow tie with tulle and glue to back of bear's neck as wings. Now, isn't she just adorable? She can be put on the bed or, if you make a smaller one, used as a perfect christmas tree topper. About 4 yards white lace
