Vintage Crochet Pattern:
Rose Border Bag

This vintage filet crochet bag matches the Border Rose Blouse, designed by Francis Harris, and published by Clark's O.N.T. Designs in 1920.

The thread used for both the blouse and the bag was Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Cotton, said to be of "excellent, lustre-superior finish."

The Border Rose Bag

This practical bag matches the Blouse of the same name.

Materials:

Clark's O. N. T. Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls of Ecru, size 10 and 2 balls of Royal Blue, size 30.



Border Roses Centerpiece ChartPattern Instructions:

Chain 103 with the ecru for the bag proper.

Row 1. 100 tr (33 blk)

Row 2. 2 blk, 29 sp, 2 blk.

Row 3. 1 blk, 31 sp, 1 blk. Repeat rows 2 and 3 for 20 inches, then narrow one mesh at the beginning and end of every row, making two blk. at the end of each row, until only three blk remains. Work 1 blk for next row.

Edging: Work the edge all around, closing the bag for 9 inches at sides. A closeup photo of the edge work is pictured at left.

Centerpiece of Roses Make a centerpiece strip of the blue and attach this strip to the middle of the bag, with ends even. A closeup view of the filet pattern for this rose motif centerpiece is shown at right; see Border Roses Centerpiece Chart for a full-size graph of this design. It is the same pattern used for the belt and shoulders of the matching border rose blouse.

Finishing:Tack the top of bag to a broad handle and make a tassel of the blue for the point.
