Free Crafts, Craft Projects and Patterns
    to Make Easy Homemade Gifts

tn2 (2K)With long summer nights getting shorter, fall can't be far behind. But this in-between time is perfect for a little crafting, and preparing the garden for winter. tn (2K)

In this issue, you'll find easy to make bird feeder plans and suet bird food recipes, plus how to overwinter roses.

Choose your favorite crocheted earrings or hat patterns (we have four of each) or try your hand at beer candles. And if you don't think it's too early, how about beading a Christmas tree ornament or pendant?

We also have a way to make your own dryer balls; paint a faux marble fireplace and how to make an emergency supply kit - all new projects on our brand new DIY site: HowtoMakeDo.net. Although the official site launch is some way off, we thought you'd enjoy these previews.

    How to Render Suet
Suet is solid beef fat that is easy to render at home. Simply chop 2 pounds of raw suet in a meat grinder, place in a pot with 1/2 inch of water, and cook in a 350 degree oven for 2 to 3 hours. Strain the liquid fat and use plain, or in the following suet bird food recipes.

    Basic Suet Muffins
To 2 cups of rendered suet, add 1 can dog food or 2 cups raisins, 2 cups rolled oats, 1 cup dry breadcrumbs or cracker crumbs and 1 cup of peanut butter. Pour into a cupcake pan, or other suitable molds, and chill. Hang cakes in a mesh bag, pack into hollowed-out orange or coconut halves, or fasten with string to a tree.

    Suet Pine Cones
Pack the scales of a pine cone with plain suet, suet mixed with bird seed, or the suet muffin mixture. Hang with twine from a tree.
