Witch Pringle

witch from recycled pringles can

Recycle a small-sized Pringles can to make this frugal and charming witch decoration for Halloween.

Material:

  • Empty Pringles can [small size]
  • Craft Sticks [small or large will work fine]
  • Black Felt
  • Foam cut outs [ghost and circles]
  • Toy spiders or bugs
  • Cotton Balls
  • Shredded Paper
  • Purple and Black paint or colour of choice
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Green glitter
  • Black permanent marker
  • Tacky Glue
  • Construction paper to match paint colour
  • Rubber band
  • Scissors

How to:

The quantity of craft sticks will depend on the size of your can.  To determine the number of sticks required, place an elastic band over the can then insert craft sticks all around the entire can. Remove the craft sticks and the rubber band, and proceed with the following directions.

Paint your craft sticks purple. Set aside to dry. While your sticks are drying, cut a piece of construction paper that will cover the outside of the can. Do this by placing your can sideways on top of your paper, mark the top and bottom of your can on the paper and roll the can across the paper to determine the length required.

Glue the cut out construction paper to the can and set aside to dry.

Cut a circle of black felt that will fit the top opening of the can plus about 2 inches all the way around, then from the centre of this circle, cut an opening the size of your can top opening.  Glue a little glitter of choice to this piece of felt, which will become the witch’s hat.

Glue your craft sticks around the outside of the can.  They won’t stay in place on their own until dry, so place a rubber band around the can again to hold the sticks in place until they are dry.  Paint across the top section [about 1 inch down from the top] with black paint. This will be the top portion of the hat.

Allow the paint to dry and then pull your felt circle [the felt will stretch a little to allow you to pull it over the sticks] over the top of the sticks and down to the base of the black painted section. Add a few drops of glue to keep the hat from moving.

Glue shredded paper around the underside of the hat for hair.

Pull apart a few cotton balls [dollar store spider webbing works great too], so they are very thin and attach randomly with glue to the top of the hat. Glue a few spiders, bugs and a foam ghost as shown in photo.

For the face, glue a foam circle at the front centre for a nose, glue a smaller circle on top of the first circle and then an even smaller circle on top. You will end up with a layer of three circles for the nose. Glue wiggly eyes and a black foam circle in place, as shown in photo. With a permanent marker, draw eyebrows and a mouth.
