Recycled Lamps

I love these themed Canning Jar Lamps, which can be filled with bits and pieces to please almost anyone. I have the Sewing Theme lamp, shown at left, in my office and craft room, and the colored threads inside it add a lovely swatch of color to the sewing table.

Assembled in the same way, with a Canning Jar Lamp Kit, this Homemade Vase Lamp can be made from almost any plain glass or ceramic vase.

You can find the Canning Jar Lamp Kits online at Amazon or, quite often, you can get them from your local hardware or craft supply store.

I originally posted the Faux Oil Lamp, shown at left, some years ago, but I’m still delighted by photos sent in by people who have made their own version.
This candle lamp is literally constructed from bits and pieces found around the house, including an old outside glass lamp shade, some jar lids and even an aspirin bottle lid which was used to make the faux oil inlet cap.

At right, check out the romantic Teacup ‘n’ Saucer Candle Lamp that you can make from a recycled cup and saucer and an electric or battery-powered candle stick.

I think this would be a great way to display that last teacup and saucer saved from a broken set, but if you don’t have these items to spare, consider picking up the prettiest ones that you can find at the thrift store. I’ve bought some gorgeous china and porcelain teacups for very reasonable prices at my local Mennonite thrift store; they are just perfect for recycling craft projects like this one.

Finally, don’t relegate that old, boring lamp to the trash heap just yet. Take another look at it, and think what a coat of paint, a fancy button and some new feet could do.
