Here’s a round-up of little recycling projects that include a touch of luxury and romance - perfect as homemade gifts for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

The Film Canister Keepsake, at right, is made from a recycled film canister and scraps of lace. You can still open the lid, so the canister can be filled with small treasures, or a handwritten poem or love note.

Use a paint stick stirrer as the base for this pretty Victorian Paper Fan, which is both decorative and practical.

Reuse wallpaper scraps or leftover gift wrap to decorate the fan, then embellish with lace or contrasting accents. If you’re planning a Victorian summer wedding or garden party, inscribe fans with the date and event details using a gold paint pen, and use the fans as party favors for guests.

Make a romantic Teacup ‘n’ Saucer Lamp from that vintage cup and saucer set left over from grandma’s old tea set, or pick up a sweet cup and saucer at the thrift store and give them new life with this project. You’ll also need an electric or battery-operated candle lamp as the base.

Recycle two saucers, and two small liquor glasses, to create a Tiered Jewelery Holder like this one. The same design would also work well as a table centerpiece for a wedding or party.

Turn a plain wooden box and lots of broken egg shells into a Decoupaged Mother-of-Pearl Trinket Box. The texture of the egg shells, combined with the satiny luster of mother-of-pearl paint makes for an intriguing, yet beautiful finish.
