Sewing a pillow is one of the first projects that many of us try when we get that very first sewing machine. That’s likely because you only need a small amount of fabric to make a pillow; most pillow patterns sew up fairly quickly, and at the end of your efforts, you’ll have a lovely swatch of color and texture to brighten a sofa, layer on a bed, or soften a chair.
Check out How to Sew a Square Pillow for sewing instructions for a basic square or rectangular pillow. Or pull out that fancy towel that you just couldn’t resist at the last White Sale, and start sewing up a Decorative Bath Towel Pillow (shown above, left) or the plainer, but more versatile, Tea Towel Pillow (shown above, right).

These two pillow patterns are a bit different, but no less attractive. The plump Round Pillow (at left) is made from a lined circle of fabric gathered around a ball of batting. You simply untie the sash to wash the pillow cover. What could be easier than that?
Finally, here’s one way to recycle a favorite t-shirt that has passed its prime for wearing. Cut around the central motif, and use it to make this Recycled T-Shirt Pillow. Great for convincing a guy to give up his favorite football tee, or just for sewing up some great memories to keep around the house.
