Store-bought Halloween costumes cost a fortune, but there is still time to make your own homemade costumes for Trick or Treat night. We have tons of ideas for you on the following pages:
6 Homemade Costumes for Kids - includes Robin Hood and Skeleton costumes, shown here, plus scarecrow, medieval lady, and cat costumes based on face paint.
30 Homemade Costume Ideas - just as the title says; something for everyone really.

Easy Toddler Costumes - How to dress your wee one as a sunflower, dwarf or pumpkin.
Thrift Store Costume Ideas - Get some inspiration from the ideas here, then go shopping at your local Sally Anne, Value Village or thrift store. You’ll get a great costume for a fraction of the cost of ready-made!
Halloween Costume Safety Tips - Think safety first, and read this article as a reminder of how to have a safe and happy Halloween. Face painting is generally safer than any costume, so this includes recipes for corn syrup blood, face paint and clown paint.

Women’s Costumes or Men’s Costumes - Use for inspiration or buy your own from Amazon. These include pictures and links for costumes that you can buy online, but I’ve included basic directions for making your own version.

Cardboard Box Costumes - Cool ways to recycle large cardboard boxes; if you don’t have any, ask the grocery store to let you pick one from the tons they collect daily. Page includes wrapped gift costume, robots, dice, lego, post office box and a box of popcorn.
One more idea that I saw on a kid that came trick or treating last year: a box of McDonald’s french fries. You will need a cardboard box and a block of foam sponge, such as the inside of an old sofa pillow. Cut off the bottom of the cardboard box so your legs will fit through it, then cut the top to resemble the familar arched shape of the McDonald’s fries boxes. Paint red, or glue on red construction or tissue paper to cover completely. Make straps to go over your shoulders from wide packing tape or duct tape. Cut the sponge into french fry shapes of slightly different lengths, then glue them around the top of the box so they stick out around your neck. Voila!
I’ve been trying to think of how to make a hamburger costume to go with the fries, but so far haven’t quite figured it out!
