Pill Bottle Sculptures

pill bottle sculpturerecycled pill bottle sculpturesI just received an email from sculptor and artist Ron Jones, asking if I had any ideas on how he could obtain mass quantities of prescription pill bottles for use in his multiple sculpture exhibit that will part of the Business2Waste2Art exhibition, hosted by the White Sturgeon Art Gallery in Vancouver, WA.

All of the sculptures in this exhibit will be made from recycled materials, and Ron chose the pill bottles as his medium.

Ron will be exhibiting multiple hanging sculptures in formations of DNA using the bottles. His exhibit is titled “Strands”. Show dates are November/December.

You can view Ron’s work at Worlds thru Ink.

A sample of the pill bottle sculptures, and the artist’s description of his work, can be viewed at Corporate DNA on Ron’s site.

I know the subject of recycling pill boxes comes up often for discussion on craft groups and recycling groups, so I thought some of you may wish to participate in this artistic endeavor. I’m sending Ron over 50 pill bottles myself, but he needs lots more. He must complete the sculptures by the end of October.

You can get more information and Ron’s mailing address by emailing him at millenium21@comcast.net.

Personally, I’m excited by Ron’s vision and the multi-stranded message in his work. Just viewing his samples made me wonder: are we over-medicated in this society? Why do we need so many pills just to stay healthy? Are the side-effects from all these pills making us ill? Do we then need more pills to cope with the side-effects? Just where do all those millions of pill bottles we get prescribed each year end up? And who benefits from all these prescriptions? Us or them?
