Wire Mesh Suet Feeder

The birds will be looking for more sustenance as fall draws in, and one way that you can help is by making this easy Suet Feeder nature craft. All you need to build it is some scrap pieces of wood, a piece of wire mesh, and basic woodworking tools. It would make a nice project for the beginning woodworker, and a good homemade gift for anyone who likes to feed wild birds.

Suet Muffins or Suet Cakes

Suet, either plain, or mixed with various other bird foods, is a great way to attract woodpeckers, nuthatches, wrens, creepers, chickadees and cardinals. You can buy suet from the butcher’s counter, then melt it in a pot and add mixed bird seed to make your own suet cake. Log Suet Feeder

Raid the wood pile for a suitable sized log, and make yourself an attractive Log Suet Bird Feeder simply by drilling holes through the log. Perches are optional, but can also be made very easily by pre-drilling the holes and inserting twigs.
