Scent-sational Crafts

smelly jelly fishbowlPolymer water crystals are often used in floral displays or to retain water in gardening projects, but here they are used to make a Smelly Jelly Fish Bowl which looks real enough to fool a passerby. Add water-based fragrance, fragrance oil or essential oil to the mix, and this faux fish bowl will work as an air freshener as well.

air freshenersI posted directions for these Plaster Air Fresheners a few months ago, which are fun to make using plaster of paris and soap molds. They make a nice, small gift for a friend, but could also be hung on a clothes hanger to gently scent your clothes.

lace clothes hangerAnother option for scented clothing are these no-sew, Lace-covered Coat Hangers, which are filled with your choice of potpourri; I personally adore the smell of lavender, so my potpourri for this project always includes lavender buds and a few drops of lavender essential oil.

lavender wandsHere are directions to make old-fashioned Lavender Wands and Lavender Bottles, which are perfect to hang in the bathroom or bedroom, or to tuck inside a clothes drawer. They would also make lovely wedding shower favors, for a reasonable cost, especially if you grow your own lavender.

Scented candles are popular, of course, but did you know that you can recycle them and make your own Scented Candle Melts? These are made in mini tart tins, from leftover candle wax scraps, and are reheated in a small oil or wax burner.ivy bowl candle lamp

Finally, one of my favourite fragrant crafts is this romantic Ivy Bowl Candle Lamp; a lovely gift to make someone for Mother’s Day, or to use as a centerpiece when entertaining your friends. The fragrance comes from the potpourri in the bottom ivy bowl, which is drawn up by the heat of the candle in the ivy bowl above it.
