I love bath and body recipes that I can make without going to a speciality store to buy the ingredients. These two gentle facial scrub recipes fit the bill: both rely on natural botanical ingredients that you may already have in your pantry - but, if you don’t - just add an inexpensive item or two to your grocery list and you’re all set to go.
The first one is called Almond Oatmeal Facial Scrub, and the night that I put this together, I was feeling blue and very much in need of a pick-me-up. All the ingredients were in my kitchen, so I tossed them in the blender and took them in the bathroom. I was very happy with the results. I will celebrate my 50th birthday early next year, and this recipe softened and tightened my skin so noticeably that it’s now on my permanent ”pick-me-up” list for bathroom escapism.
The second recipe is based on a fancy wheat germ facial recipe that my grandmother gave me years ago; one I never tried because it involved buying speciality ingredients. However, the base ingredients were close to those in my Almond Oatmeal Facial Scrub, so I figured a slimmed down version, using only the base ingredients, was worth a try.
Now I realise, at least in part, why my grandmother, at 96, is still so beautiful (she still lives alone and is the most independent person I’ve ever known). Thing is, when I asked her about the recipe she gave me so long ago, and told her about my economic shortcuts, she couldn’t stop laughing. She thought it very funny that it took me this long to cut out the **** and get down to the basics.
If you’re interested in the basic recipe, you’ll find it on my page for Wheat Germ Facial Scrub, which is grandma’s pared down facial scrub recipe - and, according to her, there is nothing better for your face. In deference to Grandma, I also have to mention that since the early 60’s, she has recommended wheat germ, period. Add it to your porridge, sprinkle it on your cereal, sneak it into chili, hamburger or meatloaf. Eat your wheat germ (which is loaded with vitamins) - and, apparently, don’t forget to spread it on your face!
