Recycle Old Christmas Cards

Before you discard the cards that you received for Christmas, check out different ways  of recycling them first.  The Woodland Trust in the UK welcomes donations of used Christmas cards until the end of January - just take your cards to any Tesco or WH Smith store for recycling.  xcard4sm (8K)Unfortunately, the St Jude’s Ranch for Children is no longer accepting used card fronts, but you can read about the success of their program - maybe it will inspire you to create a similar fund raiser for a worthy group.

As you can see from my efforts, making new cards from old ones is an easy, appealing acitivity for most children with cut and paste skills, but I think any of the following ideas may also work well for a school or church bazaar.

  1. I think I just might be the only person out there who’s never made ornaments from Christmas cards! I’ve got a pile of them though, so stand back next year!

  2. Back in the day, I was a freelance writer for Canadian Living Magazine. They now have an excellent web site, with many of the crafts previously published in their print magazine now available for free online.

I just came across this recycled Christmas card tree and thought it was perfect to add to this page:

  4. I have done that before, and it is great for little kids too. And for teachers, it is a simple and easy craft to do with your class.
