A glorious bounty of pinecones falls under the pines and spruce trees at this time of year, so gather them up whenever you can for use in nature crafts. Pinecones are so versatile that you can use them to make wreaths, ornaments and decorations of all kinds. Here’s a few to get you started:
Pinecone Angel
Dried leaves make the wings of this pinecone angel - leave them natural for fall decorating or spray with gold paint for Christmas glitz.
A variation on the angel theme is this
Potpourri Pinecone Angel dressed in fragrant chunky potpourri.
For Thanksgiving, have the kids dress a pinecone in colorful feathers and a fun foam turkey face to make this Pinecone Turkey as a centerpiece for your Thanksgiving dinner table.
Scented Pinecones:
These are ridiculously expensive in the stores and make great homemade gifts to give to almost anyone. Simply roll a pinecone in a mixture of equal parts white glue and water, or use a brush to apply glue to the petals of a pinecone, then roll in equal parts ground cinnamon and cloves and allow to dry. Display in a bowl or enclose in an airtight bag for gift giving.
If you prefer to use essential oils or fragrance oils to scent the pinecones, spread pinecones in a single layer, then add the oils to a spray bottle filled with water and spritz the pinecones to dampen. Allow to dry, then enclose in airtight bags for gift giving.
