Campfire Starters

Camp fires can be notoriously hard to start, particularly if the weather is damp or rainy. So why not make a few camp fire starters from old candle stubs and wood shavings? These pretty ones do make great fundraiser bazaar crafts, but in the high summer, I imagine most of you just want easy instructions for campfire starters that you can make right now to take on your camping trip next week. Check out the basic instructions at the AllFreeCrafts camp fire starters page — but don’t be afraid to amend them! I imagine that sawdust would work just as well as wood shavings, if mixed with old candle wax or paraffin wax, so if you have a copious supply of wood shavings, put it to good use! I think you could also replace the cupcake papers too, in this craft - why not tear pieces of newspaper or even used computer paper into squares and stuff each square into a muffin pan, then fill with a mixture of melted wax and wood shavings and/or sawdust? If anyone tries this, I’d love for you to come back from the roaring camp fire and share your comments…
