Ode to Old Blue Jeans

Here are some ways to recycle old blue jeans not the least of which is a denim quilt, which has been on my “to do” list for a while now.

I want to make a new cover out of denim for an old quilt that I sewed for my daughter years ago.  The planned quilt is patchwork denim from old blue jeans…a laudable ambition, except I never get around to cutting squares from my old blue jeans.jean zipper

The answer came from the thrift store…a plastic bag full of 8 inch denim squares, culled from tatty jeans donated to the store.  Now there’s a fundraiser:  cut enough denim squares to make an 80″ x 60″ quilt and package them in a quilt kit, including a few squares with pockets or logos.  Awesome!

I bought the kit, and have since donated the jeans that I was going to use back to the store.  Most have lots of wear left and will be sold as clothes.  The rest…well, who knows, maybe I’ll buy them back in another convenient denim quilt kit!
